As you may or may not know, on January 7th Notre Dame is playing Alabama for the national championship in college football. You might think that being from the Midwest I’d be rooting for Notre Dame. You would be wrong.
I find myself in the majority of people who hate Notre Dame. Case in point, the t-shirt at left is the #1 selling t-shirt heading into the game. Is this supposed to be funny? The sheer arrogance of ND fans is stunning.
It seems ironic to me that Domers think that “cousins” is the derogatory word in the shirt, when really in my mind the bad word is Catholic. Priests abusing kids, no birth control, and an old guy in a pointy hat that is infallible. Yeah cousins is the bad word.
Quite honestly it’s amazing that it has taken the Irish so long to get back to this level given all the advantages that are handed to them. The current BCS system provides that if ND finishes in the top 8 they get an automatic BCS bowl berth. You couple that with ND being constantly overrated and the result is some hefty preferential treatment?
ND has an exclusive agreement with NBC. What that means is that since they are not in a conference they don’t have to share any money with anyone. Yet, they haven’t been relevant since 1988. Where is all of their money going (settlements probably)?
The ND mascot is the fighting Irish. How is this not racist? Was potato eating micks in the mix when they were choosing names?
There are so many more reasons to hate ND, but in the Christmas spirit I will stop now. But before I go, I leave you with this – ROLL TIDE.
