Would you be surprised if I told you the Under the Dome ratings for the premiere episode were huge? Well you shouldn’t be. Under the Dome was on CBS after all and that means that millions of people will watch the show if for no other reason then they can’t find the remote (that’s the only possible explanation for why 2 Broke Girls is still on the air).
13.1 million people tuned in to the premiere episode on Monday night and that number will grow once the DVR +3 and +7 are added in. Keep in mind that Under the Dome went up against Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals so there are going to be plenty more people who recorded Under the Dome to watch later.
In the coveted 18 to 49 demographic that advertisers love, Under the Dome registered a 3.2 rating. in the summer, network TV shows usually struggle to get over a 1 rating. Numbers for Under the Dome can be considered to be a break out hit.
Couple those numbers with the positive reviews that Dome has been receiving, and I won’t be surprised to see these numbers get even bigger.
CBS shows again why they are the king of the world when it comes to network TV. When other networks give up in the summer, CBS produces a scripted drama that does what CBS shows do, produce ratings. NBC, you should be taking notes.
