Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and since we talk about TV here at MWTVG, I think it would be appropriate to talk about some of our favorite Thanksgiving moments on TV. Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order:
WKRP IN CINCINNATI – THE TURKEY DROP (1978)
This one is perhaps the most famous of all Thanksgiving moments on TV and is still funny today. One of the all-time funniest lines in the history of TV. “As God is my witness. I thought turkeys could fly.” I still laugh my ass off at this clip.
CHARLIE BROWN – IT’S THANKSGIVING CHARLIE BROWN (1973)
No holiday is complete until you watch the Charlie Brown special. This is the 40 year anniversary of It’s Thanksgiving Charlie Brown.
THE BRADY BUNCH – THE UN-UNDERGROUND MOVIE (1970)
Before there were the Cosby’s and their strange ability to get put in every situation possible that matches them with all kinds of celebrities, there were The Brady’s. This family of 8 (9 if you include Alice because who doesn’t take their maid on every vactiion) did more than any real family that size could ever afford to do. Of course they did a Thanksgiving episode too and it makes our list.
FRIENDS – THE ONE WITH ALL THE THANKSGIVINGS (1998)
Friends was like How I Met Your Mother in the 90s without Ted Mosby. I thought it was a fantastic show in the beginning but then it wore on too long and the characters never ever ever ever ever changed. How long can we wait to see what wackiness Phoebe gets herself in to? How dumb is Joey? We get it. Before the show turned in to a nightmare, there was this very funny Thanksgiving episode.
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER – THE TRUE MEANING OF SLAPSGIVING (2007)
One of the funniest episodes of HIMYM ever. We have been very tough on HIMYM lately, and with more than enough good reason, but it’s good to remember that there were funny times on this show.
CHEERS – THANKSGIVING ORPHANS (1986)
One of my favorite moments from CHEERS and if you remember, we almost got to see Vera. I used this clip because they were interviewing cast members and I love hearing about their memories.
Some other moments that I couldn’t find video clips for:
1. Happy Days first thanksgiving where Fonz wears a leather coat over his Pilgrim outfit.
2. Seinfeld where Elaine wins a contest so Mr. Pitt can hold a balloon in the Thanksgiving parate.
Those are mine. What are some of your favorite TV Thanksgiving moments?
