Travel Wisconsin Airplane Commercial
What did you think of the commercial? Overall, I think this is a pretty good commercial. Sure there are issues with who’s lines were being delivered by who but really this was just more of a trip down nostalgia lane. I’m usually the one that nitpicks the tiniest of errors in TV and movies but here, I’m ok with what they’ve done. The great Leslie Nielsen is no longer alive to be able to deliver his brilliant lines so we have to make due with what we have. Kareem obviously hasn’t taken any acting classes since the early 80s, but that’s ok. Hat’s off to the folks at Travel Wisconsin for having the sound of a propeller driven aircraft while showing the jet aircraft as well.
The Travel Wisconsin Airplane commercial was directed by David Zucker, who directed, among other movies, Airplane! and The Naked Gun series. It’s no surprise they took on a spoof of Airplane! with Zucker directing. Here’s the first one directed by Zucker for Travel Wisconsin:
The second commercial directed by David Zucker is the first one starring his friend and Airplane! star, Robert Hays:
For a bonus, since we are talking about David Zucker and his work, here is what I think is one of the greatest lines in the history of comedy. It was delivered by the late great Leslie Nielsen in the oft forgotten brilliant TV Show, Police Squad!
This is a nice series of commercials. They aren’t going to make me go to Wisconsin any time soon because seriously, have you been there in the Summer? Their road construction is even worse than Chicago’s. I always like watching a good commercial though and this one is entertaining enough. It’s an art form that is slowly dying thanks to the DVR.
