For all of you THE WALKING DEAD fans who like their zombie-horror bathed in monochrome, the first season and a half is going to be re-broadcast on AMC in full black and white glory. While this might seem like an odd choice for those of us who prefer combinations and permutations of red green and blue on our televisions, the black and white treatment is in homage to the original comic books by Robert Kirkman.
Being a huge WALKING DEAD fan, I am planning on treating myself to the first 1000 page comic compendium just after Christmas for a little light reading of the source material. Word on the street is that there are some major differences and I think it will be fun to be able to compare the comic to the television series. Even though I am a moderately-avid fan of classic horror comics (TALES FROM THE CRYPT, VAULT OF HORROR, THE WITCHING HOUR, etc) as well as a huge fan of MIKE MIGNOLA’S HELLBOY series, I have never once picked up an issue of THE WALKING DEAD. I will report back my findings as they come.
For those interested to see the black and white broadcasts, Season 1 episodes one and two kick off on Thursday Feb 14th at 6:30 (because nothing says “I love you” like THE WALKING DEAD) and they air weekly through May 2nd.
