It’s summer re-run season and for some reason my cable shows don’t start until 8pm CST. Since I refuse to watch commercials, I have to find something to watch until 8:30, when I can safely watch my shows knowing I won’t catch-up to real time (and no I’m not going to watch a movie).
Enter The Mindy Project
Here is a sample clip featuring Chicagoan “Common” as a concerned security guard.
It’s another one of those shows that as a guy I hate to admit it, but it’s good. How this show even came about it pretty funny. It was originally set to air on NBC under a different title but NBC decided to not air the show. The script was then sent to FOX who got the ball rolling. I imagine that meeting went something like this:
FOX Network Honcho: I’m not sure about this show. Are you sure NBC passed on it?
Flunky Employee: I’m sure.
FOX Network Honcho: Well that’s good enough for me, let’s get this made.
I guess what I’m saying is that NBC doesn’t have a clue when it comes to comedy. Even when they have a funny show (Go On, 1600 Penn, or The New Normal), they don’t support it and kill them first chance they get.
The Mindy Project is set for season 2 sometime in September. If you’re like me and are looking for something to fill the void that is your life, well this isn’t it. But it’s a start.
