The Hollywood Reporter has a story today about Sam Simon, the terminally ill Simpson’s co-creator that is giving away his fortune to help animals and the hungry.
While Simon left The Simpsons in 1993, he retained an executive producer credit that pays him tens of millions of dollars a year (not a bad gig if you can get it) and he has already given millions away to charities.
Diagnosed 5 months ago with terminal colon cancer, Simon has vowed to give away all of his money before he dies.
We do a lot of stories here about how awful some celebrities are and truthfully, most of them are really awful. This is a story about a guy though that seems to be doing some good. He has a limited amount of time left on this earth and he wants to leave knowing that he took care of those who couldn’t help themselves. If only more of the rich in Hollywood were like Sam Simon.
You can read the full story about him at the Hollywood Reporter so head there for everything. I just wanted to comment about him because I was touched to read about this guy and all the good work he has done with his money.
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
