We are just over one week away from the premiere of the best reality show on TV. Survivor Brawn Brains Beauty premieres next Wednesday 2/26 at 7:00 on CBS. There is no better reality show on TV and I’m super excited for the premiere of the next season, which is the 28th season by the way, of Survivor which is officially called Survivor: Cagayan. Let’s take a look at the cast and get a preview of what we can expect this season.
Survivor: Cagayan – Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty will start with 18 players divided in to three teams of 6 each. The teams will be divided based on the three attributes, brains, brawn, and beauty. The three teams are Aparri (Brawn), Luzon (Brains), and Solana (Beauty).
There will be the traditional hidden immunity idols that are out in play during the time the teams are playing separately. Those idols must be played prior to votes being read so there has to be strategy behind knowing when you might need to play your hidden idol or if you are safe enough to sit on it. There have been huge mistakes made by people misreading the game who went home with a hidden immunity idol in their pocket. This can possibly change during the game though as the Survivor folks like to throw twists and turns in to every game. Just when people start thinking they know the game and how to strategize, boom, the game changes.
Similar to Survivor: Panama and Survivor: Cook Islands, there will still be a hidden immunity idol in play after the teams merge. This idol can be held until after the votes are read so it is a very powerful idol to have in your pocket. Be on the lookout for people to find all of the idols without any clues. I’m hoping this season that the producers get smarter about hiding the idols. It was quite a twist before that people were able to find the idols with no help but I’m kind of sick of that aspect of the game now. I’d like to see it get more difficult to find these idols. People have gotten very smart about how to play them so they are even more valuable now than they were in years past. It has to be harder to find them.
When you take a look at these teams, I think you are going to find that the Survivor producer’s definitions of brawn, brains, and beauty are kind of loose. While there are people on each of the teams that seem to be in the right categories, there are others that you have to scratch your head and wonder how they got on to the team they are on.
The idea is very interesting and it’s something that myself and other fans have been asking CBS to do for a long time. There has to be a way to divide up the teams to balance out obvious strengths and obvious weaknesses. I think CBS has gotten this partly right. Instead of pitting teams of various attributes against each other, my reccommendation would be to have an entire season of one attribute to completely remove that factor from the game. Have a season with all weak older women for example. Since that is the attribute that makes you most likely to get to the final tribal council, why not have an entire season of weak older women so that can’t be a factor? I digress.
