I’ve already given you one show tonight that you should be watching so since I’m in the giving mood, let me give you another. Surviving Jack on Fox is the best of the late-season premieres and is a show that you should not be missing.
Surviving Jack is a family comedy set in 1991 starring Christopher Meloni (Oz, Law and Order: SVU, Harold and Kumar) and it goes to show something that has been known in Hollywood for a long time. The best comedy actors are ones who are also good in drama and that is Christopher Meloni.
The fact that this show is set in 1991 is perfect for guys my age. It’s about a kid who is in HS in 1991. Hey, I was in HS in 1991. I relate to this kid. If you are my age, you will relate to not only the star, but to the family and their dynamic.
Surviving Jack is written by Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker and is based on the book written by Halpern, I Suck at Girls. The show is executive produced by Bill Lawrence and if there is anything that Bill Lawrence knows, it’s good comedy.
The subject matter is right up my alley and I’m sure is something that most of us, besides all those Italian dudes I went to HS with (if any HS friends are reading this, I’m sure you know who they are) who seemed to be constantly swimming in a sea of girls, will relate to.
Another hallmark of a Bill Lawrence show is a great soundtrack and Surviving Jack continues that great tradition. Gen Xers like myself will love the music on the show that all comes from the early 90s. You will be taken back to hearing Mr. Lohrke yell at the non-cool kids (because he let the cool kids do whatever they wanted and no, I don’t hold a grudge) in the hallway in no time.
If you haven’t heard of this show, here is the trailer from Fox:

I’ve been watching this show for a couple of weeks now because I wanted to reserve judgement. After watching the episodes I’ve seen, I’m ready to pass judgement and say that Surviving Jack is a show you should be watching.
