Fans of Sons of Anarchy might be getting a Christmas present. Kurt Sutter told The Hollywood Reporter that a Sons of Anarchy Prequel could likely be an FX miniseries.
FX has recently started doing more event series and one-offs like the individual seasons of American Horror Story. The addition of this direction from FX gave Sutter the idea to approach FX with a Sons of Anarchy prequel focused on the original 9 members of SAMCRO. Said Sutter:
“I brought the concept of the first nine to them very early on, a couple season[s] in. They were intrigued by the idea. Now that FX has expanded and they’re looking at doing standalone seasons and miniseries, I think it’s a probably a lot more viable than it was a few years ago. I love the idea of doing the origin story, even if it’s a standalone 12-episode thing. I love the idea of doing a period piece. It definitely would have different energy, it would be a different kind of show, but I think the real fans would plug into it.
We would probably want to rest the mythology for a season or two, meaning that I don’t think we would end Sons and begin the prequel. I think we would let it breathe for a couple years.”
We just wrapped up an incredible and brutal season 6 and will only have 1 more season of Sons of Anarchy before it’s all over. I would love to see a Sons of Anarchy prequel that looks at how SAMCRO was formed and how things were for the original 9. There has been quite a few flashbacks to the old days and many references to things from the past that have been brought forward in to the MC of today. It would be interesting to see those back stories played out on the screen. How did the club get in to guns? How did the relationship with the Irish get started? What was it like when Gemma and Clay were plotting behind John Teller’s back? There is so much that would be very interesting to see.
Fans of Sons. What do you think? Would you watch a miniseries on the origin of SAMCRO?
