One of my favorite shows of the summer is So You Think You Can Dance. I’m not ashamed to admit it. We just got to the top 20 where the dancers perform as couples in various dance styles one night and then get the results the next night. In this season there was a format change where the judges would announce the bottom vote getters who were in danger of being booted from the show right at the start of the show. These dancers were then forced to dance for their lives and were then immediately judged with 2 dancers being sent home. The problem? The two dancers that were sent home still had to perform their partner dance with their partner who had not been sent home. America didn’t like it. Not one bit.
In fact, America hated this new format so much that fans took to Twitter to voice their outrage. in a move that reminds me why I like this show so much more than American Idol, Executive Producer and Judge Nigel Lythgoe actually listened to the fans. After hearing the rage from fans on Twitter, Lythgoe tweeted this response:
So chalk one up for America. We get to go back to the format used in Season 9 which is the way it should be. Take that lesson Nigel and don’t ever mess with the format again. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Are any of you watching this season? Here is one of my favorites so far from season 10, Bluprint:
