On September 17, 2012 the power went out. After 10 episodes aired, NBC turned the power off on the show for 4 months.
It came back in March and 5 episodes have aired since its return. Right now there are 5 left till the season finale. So how’s it been since it’s been back on the air? I would say really good.
What has made the difference for me is that they have gotten out of the Monroe Republic and are into more of the country. We’ve gotten to see how other parts of the country dealt with the blackout. We’ve been introduced to the Georgia Federation and the Plains Nation. I think it helps take some of the focus off of General Sebastian Monroe (played by David Lyons). It’s not that he’s a bad actor, it’s just his character is kind of one dimensional. We get it, you are the crazy bad guy stereotype. Kind of a Darth Vader if you will.
So what do we have to look forward to in the next 5 episodes? The previews show us that Tom Neville has changed his allegiances from the Monroe Republic to the Georgia Federation. He is going to work with his former enemy Miles Matheson against the Monroe Republic. He’s been a great character with a lot of depth and they’ve used him well.
We’ve been given some glimpses of why the power went off. We also now know that Rachel Matheson has the ability to turn the power back on. Somewhere in Colorado exists a tower that holds the key to the whole kit and caboodle.
So now she’s begun a quest to Colorado to turn the power back on.
The show has moved at a decent pace since returning and it appears the ratings have held steady. It’s already been renewed for next season, which is amazing for an NBC show, other than The Voice. Bottom line, I look forward to the next 5 episodes to see how this power thing shakes out.
