What if loves ones you have lost came back to life? The premise is very interesting because I’m sure we have all lost someone too soon that we wish could be brought back.
In the premiere episode, a young boy is shown waking up in a rice paddy in China.. It turns out the boy is 8 year old Jacob Langston and there are two problems with Jacob waking up in a rice paddy in China. First, he shouldn’t be in China. Second, he shouldn’t be in China because Jacob died 32 years ago.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent J. Martin Bellamy (Omar Epps) get the case of the mysterious 8 year old who unexplainedly shows up in China. Just before he takes Jacob to the child welfare office, Jacob remembers where his hometown is and where his parents house is. It turns out, Jacob is from Arcadia, Missouri. He’s a long way from home and a long way from the time when he was actually still alive.
Agent Bellamy thinks he is dealing with a missing person’s report and that all he has to do is take Jacob back home and his problem is solved. When he gets to Jacob’s house, his parents, played by Kurtwood Smith (That 70s Show), and Frances Fisher (Titanic), tell agent Bellamy that their son died tragically 32 years ago and that he is not missing. Jacob recognizes his dad and runs to him and hugs him.
I can’t imagine the shock that would hit a parent if their child showed back up 32 years later alive and still looking like the 8 year old they remember. They handle it surprisingly well but are not sure what to make of this miraculous situation. No one is sure what to make of it.
As the episode progresses we find that there is probably a reason for Jacob being brought back to life and we find that he is not the only one back from the dead. Something is going on in Arcadia and we don’t yet have the slightest idea what it is.
I am intrigued by the first episode and I’ll keep watching. I have been hooked by the story of the kid coming back and I am very curious to find out now what is going on. My daughter made a point about Resurrection that I thought was right on and it does have me a bit worried. It has a bit of an Under the Dome feeling to it and that isn’t a good thing. I hope Resurrection doesn’t go the way of Under the Dome. If we come to find out that aliens are involved in whatever is going on, I am going to be very disappointed.
If you aren’t familiar with Resurrection, check out the trailer from ABC. It’s a very interesting show.
Resurrection airs on ABC Sundays at 8:00.
