Psych – The Musical

The joy of having your own blog is that you get to promote the shows you like.  Psych happens to be one of my favorite shows. I know it’s a silly show, but I don’t care.  It’s good clean fun which there’s not a lot of on TV anymore.

This Sunday on the USA Network at 8pm CST it’s Psych – The Musical.  In fairness Psych announced their plan for a musical way back in July way before NBC ever thought to do its own musical.  I supposes a show about a Psychic detective should have seen that coming.

If you are unfamiliar with the show, it’s about a guy (Jame Roday) that pretends to have psychic powers.  He works with the police to solve crimes using these fake powers.  It’s kind of like The Mentalist only funny.  The cast includes Dule Hill, Maggie Lawson, and Corbin Bernsen.

The 8th season of Psych will begin January 8th.  So far an impressive 111 episodes have aired making it the longest running show on USA.  In addition, IMDB users rate the show 8.3 out of 10, which puts it at #140 on the list of all time best TV shows. I Love Lucy is #139 and Mash is #141 for reference.  Don’t believe me, here’s the link to IMDB.

The 8th season, which may be the last will feature guest actors such as Mira Sorvino, Phylicia Rashad, Kristy Swanson, Anthony Michael Hall, Tom Arnold, Billy Zane, Loretta Devine, Bruce Campbell, and Cary Elwes.

Zap2It wrote an article about the best TV show muscials so far and raised the question of whether on not Psych will be on the list.  Surprisingly, there have been some good TV show musicals.

Lets take a look at the trailer.
So set the DVR’s to record Psych – The Musical.

If you watch the show, then you would not say that. Psych The Musical is not a surprise at all for something they would do….it just fits, its not a random, stupid, unsupported idea.

I’d like to point out, for continuity purposes, that we destroyed shows like How I Met Your Mother for the rhyming episode, and Glee for their puppet episode. Psych the musical belongs in that class with those other shows. Doing something gimmicky like this smells of desperation.
