Great news Sons of Anarchy fans. There is a possible Sons of Anarchy prequel in the works! Kurt Sutter was at a Sons for Sandy relief even in New Jersey on Sunday and told fans “I’ve had discussions with the network about it, and I think they are open to it. I think there is something really interesting about the origins of the club. And to do a period piece set in the ’60s, post-Vietnam could be kind of cool. I don’t think we would dovetail and start right after the series ended, but it’s something I’m potentially excited about it.”
Since we don’t just report the news here, we also criticize it. Let me say that I am on board with a prequel if they do this. I think it would be fantastic. The origin of the club and the actions of John Teller have been a running story line throughout the history of the show as Jax tries to figure out what happened to his dad and determine the direction the MC should take in the future.
A 60s period piece featuring a true outlaw motorcycle gang full of guys just returning from Vietnam is a setting that is full of possible story lines. True Sons fans would get to see the relationship between Gemma and John and then see how her relationship with Clay develops. We would at some point then get to see the events leading up to John’s death and how that all played out.
This could be bad news for Sons fans though if this is true. We seem to be heading to the point where Jax is going to get the truth about his dad. If this Sons of Anarchy prequel is a real possibility, I think that Sutter will not give us the full details in a Sons episode. We would probably have to wait for the prequel to get the answers we are looking for.
With just 3 episodes left in season 6 and just one more season to go before it all ends, I know that I have not nearly had enough of SAMCRO. If there was a Sons of Anarchy prequel, I would be tuning in. With over 2 million viewers watching Sons, I would be willing to bet that a large number of that crowd would tune in to a Sons of Anarchy prequel as well.
