Not sure if you heard but there was some type of election this week that has people out of their minds.  To me it meant there was no TV on Tuesday and that I’d need to find something else to watch.  Searching OnDemand for new shows I stumbled across a show called People of Earth.  What a smart and funny show.

Let’s talk about the producers of the show.  Maybe you’ve heard of little shows like The Office and Parks and Rec?  This show has those producers and has a very similar feel to those shows.

Wyatt Cenac (The Daily Show) and Ana Gasteyer (SNL/Suburgatory) who are members of an alcoholics anonymous type group for people who had “experiences” with aliens.  Look, Ana Gasteyer can just act and might be one of the funniest women out there now but the surprise of the show is Wyatt Cenac.

It’s not just those two actors though, pretty much the entire cast is outstanding.  I love shows that have big strong casts as it gives the show the ability to explore many different topics.  Just to name a few there’s H. Jon Benjamin (Bob’s Burgers), Oscar Nunez (The Office),  Tracee Chimo (Orange is the New Black), and Michael Cassidy (Men at Work).

I don’t want to give to much away as experiencing the show is part of what makes it funny.  This is not the first show about people dealing with aliens.  The show could have gone any number of routes but went a new route by just showing these people as flawed and thoughtful individuals who happened to have alien experiences.

And yes, I know when someone tells you how good a show is it can never live up to the hype and this show would be no different.  What I’m asking is that you give it a watch with an open mind.  It’s not going to bang you over the head with one liners like 2 Broke Girls and it’s not formulaic like every CBS comedy ever.  What People of Earth is though is funny, intelligent, and interesting.

The show airs on Monday night on TBS.  So far 3 have aired and I’ve watched them twice already.  So set your phasers to record so this show sticks around.
