Here at MWTVG, your trusty author and confidant MIDWEST MARK is here to bring you the latest and greatest in new television shows as they get picked up for the Fall season. As long as they’re not comedies. MIDWEST MARK doesn’t watch comedies. Leave that to MIDWEST MO. Leave THE BACHELORETTE Pt. 9 for MIDWEST MIKE.
To clarify my prior point, by “latest and greatest” I only mean “latest”, because it’s really difficult to tell what out of any of these could be considered “greatest”. There are only a few shows that pique my interest in the first place, and here are my thoughts on each of them. To be totally honest, I’m way more excited for the return of some of the year-after-year mainstays such as AMERICAN HORROR STORY and THE WALKING DEAD rather than suffer through getting into some new show that has mediocrity issues and is bound to get cancelled anyway.
Before you go inside to check everything out, how about you head over to Facebook and like us? We like you, whether you know it or not. How creepy is that? I’ll leave it up to you to judge.
DRACULA on NBC – This show can either be good or really really bad, certainly nowhere inbetween. It appears like there are high production values and decent actors involved, I just wish they could come up with a new twist on the standard Dracula story that has been told hundreds of times already. As the trailer gets to the point of looking promising, it starts getting quite cheesy near the end especially with some of the action and bloodsucking parts. At least it doesn’t look like he sparkles.
SLEEPY HOLLOW on FOX – Launches in the Fall. Well, ‘launching’ might be a misleading term as it would denote doing well… unfortunately I am not all that impressed by the trailer. Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman wake up in present day to a buddy-cop drama with generic taglines (“Heads Will Roll”… *crickets*.), racial jokes and Starbucks humor. I’ll give it a shot, but am not getting my hopes up.
ALMOST HUMAN on FOX – In the Fall. I’ll go out on a limb and say that this looks like the best of the bunch. I’m a big KARL URBAN fan and there’s a “DREDD minus helmet” feel going on here. Which would be a good thing, by the way–DREDD is quite a solid action flick if you haven’t checked it out already.
AKA: Not even worth posting the trailers.
IRONSIDE, the black Joe Swanson story? No thanks. Ok, so it’s a remake of a show that ran from ’67 – ’75, but still not interested.
THE BLACKLIST = THE FOLLOWING with a female KEVIN BACON. Seriously, it might as well be the EXACT. SAME. SHOW. -3 on the originality meter.
RAKE. Yes, this show is called RAKE. Imagine if HOUSE went J.D. rather than M.D. It’s a remake of a British drama of the same name except replace smarmy Brit with Greg Kinnear.
Did I read any of these wrong? Does everybody agree? Should I just lose all self respect and start watching comedies again? Commentary encouraged.
