Have you seen this McDonald’s Team Bus commercial? At first you might think nothing of it. I watch a lot of TV (and eat a lot of McDonald’s) so I’ve seen this commercial several times now. The first time I saw it, I had one opinion on the commercial. Now, after seeing it several more times, I have that same opinion but I’ve added another. Watch the commercial here and let’s see what you think.
McDonald’s Team Bus Commercial – Unedited
Ok did you watch that? Take note. Now watch this version of the commercial and see if you notice anything different. It’s ostensibly the same commercial but there is a key difference.
McDonald’s Team Bus Commercial – Edited Version
Notice the difference? The exchange between the coach and the blonde girl is taken out of the second commercial. It’s funny because as I am writing this, this very same commercial came on TV and the full version was run. I’m not claiming conspiracy here but I think the shortened commercial is interesting in what they leave out.
My initial opinion of this commercial came from my years and years of managing employees in the age range of the team on the bus. If there is one thing you know as a manager having to manage that group, you don’t ever, ever, never, ever, ever for the love of all that is holy, do something for one of them that you didn’t do for the others.
The one girl immediately calling the coach out for giving the other girl more than just a coffee is just the first shot in what is sure to be a shit storm of a bus ride for this coach. I don’t know how long their bus ride is, but he is going to hate every minute of it. I would bet that the one girl is complaining, the rest are already tweeting out their displeasure and posting a review on Yelp! of the coach. A very rookie mistake on his part.
After watching this commercial a few more times something else struck me. Why did the coach feel the need to proclaim the reason why so and so was the captain? So she’s the captain because she asks for more? Ok fine. The reaction on blondie’s face though says it all. Did you see that smirk? She knows why that girl is the captain and it has nothing to do with her breakfast order.
What are your thoughts?
Also, for the record, I have eaten enough McDonald’s over the years that I am sure I have put more than 1 of Ronald’s kids through clown college. That value menu is going to be the death of me.
