Anyone who watches House of Cards will not be surprised by this news. Kevin Spacey will be playing a role in the next iteration of the Call of Duty franchise due out later this year. Spacey’s brilliant character on House of Cards, Francis (Frank) Underwood, is often shown relaxing by playing Call of Duty. The popularity of the Underwood character and the popularity of the Call of Duty franchise make this a match made in nerd heaven (which I think the nerds call Valhalla).
Not much is known yet about the new Call of Duty game other than it is called Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and that it’s being developed by Sledgehammer Games. Sledgehammer put out a teaser site as well that you can visit for shady hints about what might be in store for the next installment in one of gaming’s most popular franchises in history. There is also a trailer that tells you that the next Call of Duty will take place on the battlegrounds of the future.
I think it’s a good idea to move the franchise forward. There isn’t much more than can be done with shooters set in the present day. That type of game has been fully played out. While they are moving the game forward, my hope is that this doesn’t turn in to a Halo type of a game but we’ll see. I’m looking forward this game and if you are a gamer who likes shooters, you should be too. Here is the trailer that was released today if you haven’t seen it with Kevin Spacey’s character from the game.
