I understand that the big traditional celebration is in New York, but can’t Chicago afford a slightly better act than Soul Asylum?!? Because my definition of a rockin’ new years is seeing a band that had one hit back in the mid 90′s and fell off the face of the earth until 20 years later in some sort of bizarre christ-like resurrection. Except I guarantee that Soul Asylum is not going to save the current decrepit state of rock and roll.
For those of you who were fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to catch the start of the New York special, you were treated to America’s current favorite Korean guy PSY running around Gangnam-Styling with David Hasselhoff in a porta-potty. Add this to the list of random garbage that I immediately regret watching. My only New Year’s resolution? To somehow forget that I ever saw that.
So everybody be safe out there and may I speak for the rest of the MWTVG’s that we hope to see all of you around in 2013 and beyond!

Midwest Mark — What you wrote about Soul Asylum is exactly what I was thinking when I saw song after song of the Prince cover band. Really? C’mon! We’re CHICAGO. Chicago’s partying like we’re Minneapolis or Dubuque. Happy New Year, MWTVG!
I couldn’t agree more. When I saw Soul Asylum on the tv, I immediately started complaining about how “low end” Chicago was.
