Guillermo Del Toro and HBO’s Monster

monsterMangaGUILLERMO DEL TORO must be on a neverending quest to work on everything he possibly can at the exact same time.  Today, his schedule was just made a bit more busy with the announcement (via Deadline) of the official development of a new HBO series named MONSTER, based on a massive 18-volume Japanese manga of the same name.

DEL TORO will split writing duties with STEVE THOMPSON who previously worked with DR WHO and SHERLOCK over on BBC.  The manga series comes very highly regarded and is an enormous multi-thousand-page work that was also developed into a 74 part anime series in 2004.

The story revolves around the hunt for some sort of ultra-evil super villain by the name of Johann and involves conspiracies, assassins, Nazi Eugenics experiments, dead bodies and the oh-so-thin line between good and evil.  In full disclosure, I have never read the book but might very well start before the show premieres at some point in the future.

This is very exciting to me seeing as I adore everything that GUILLERMO DEL TORO is involved with.  Even his misfires are stylish and enjoyable.  Couple Del Toro’s genius with HBO and their string of fantastic original series and we might have ourselves a winner.

How ironic is this? I was just thinking to myself “when will Guillermo Del Torodo a manga comic adaptation?”
