FX has greenlighted a new comedy starring Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence. The as of yet untitled show will feature Grammer and Lawrence as two Chicago lawyers who form an unlikely friendship.
Like the deal FX had for Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management, the Grammer/Lawrence comedy has been given a 10/90 deal. FX has for now ordered 10 episodes of the comedy and if the show hits certain ratings targets, FX will order another 90 episodes.
This show will mark the return of Grammer to comedy after his critically acclaimed role on Starz’ Boss and it will be Lawrence’s first time back on TV since he starred on his comedy, Martin.
I’m not sure what to think about the premise of this show. I can imagine a show starring these two as unlikely friends will probably be taking the easy road and going for obvious differences. I’m hoping that this isn’t a show about Lawrence being a stereotypical black guy lawyer and Grammer being a stereotypical nerdy white guy lawyer and uh oh, look out, they are trying to be friends. Katy bar the door. It’s time for some real comedy and hijinx to begin.
No air date has been announced yet for this show but I’d expect the initial 10 episodes to air this fall.
