Fourth Episode of Hannibal Pulled from NBC Lineup

hannibal[1]Unleash the Political Correctness Police… Variety reports that next week’s episode of HANNIBAL has been officially pulled in the wake of the Newtown shootings and most recently the Boston Marathon Bombings.

While not having anything to do with explosives, the episode did involve children killing other children with MOLLY SHANNON (!) being their ringleader.  Instead of airing the fourth episode, they will jump straight to the fifth which according NBC will not pose any continuity issues, since the fourth episode was not even included in the episodes screened for critics.

According to HANNIBAL’S creator BRYAN FULLER, “I didn’t want to have anyone come to the show and have a negative experience.”

I sort of see what he’s saying, but remain adamantly against self-imposed censorship just because of sensitivities whether real or percieved.  In Fuller’s shoes, he probably just wants to protect his highly rated new show in its infant state and not let anything damage its ratings.  If a season two renewal comes from a move like this, I might start to agree with the reasoning.

In the same breath, are we suddenly going to get cancel happy with any show featuring any kind of gun or explosion?  There’s a not-so-fine line between fictional entertainment and national tragedies.  Treat them as their respective selves.

Important to note that the episode will still run as planned overseas.

I understand that with it being new that want to cover there bases on a….touchy subject. I personally feel that is unnecessary and its supposed to be a dark/disturbing show anyways. Also if it really isn’t going to interfere with the continuity though I would think they could perhaps air it later in the season when more time has passed to appease any…..(I can’t think of any term other than overly sensitive crazies).
