Djesus Uncrossed

djesus uncrossedChristoph Waltz hosted Saturday Night Live last night and did a passable job.  What I’m reminded of every time I watch SNL with some big star hosting is just how hard it is to do sketch comedy.  Rarely will you see a seasoned actor who doesn’t struggle a bit on SNL and even more rare is it when you see one who isn’t reading right off their cue cards the entire episode.  Waltz wasn’t too bad but he struggled a bit.  His best skit of the night was a digital short (which they could do multiple takes on until they got it right) spoofing Quentin Tarantino with Djesus Uncrossed.

The funniest line of this was the movie review that said Djesus Uncrossed was only half as violent as Passion of the Christ.

Not a great episode from SNL last night but not a terrible one either.

That video was hilarious. Waltz is fantastic.

I thought it was good. Waltz wasn’t very good overall on SNL but it just goes to show how hard live TV is to pull off. In the Djesus video, they were able to shoot take after take until they got it just the way they wanted it. Waltz was clearly more comfortable in that medium than live.

      • I like how SNL is still willing to have actors I’ve never heard of host the show. I get tired of always recognizing the host and having any idea of what they have done. Even better is SNL’s willingness to have hosts that are not at all funny or even slightly entertaining. I kept thinking a young Martin Scorsese was hosting the show.

How do you not know who Christoph Waltz is? He won an Oscar for his role in Inglorious Basterds and will probably win another for his role in Django Unchained.
