In what I feel to be an excellent casting decision, EMILIA CLARKE (otherwise known as Daenerys Targaryen from GAME OF THRONES) has been announced as the next actress to play Sarah Connor in the upcoming TERMINATOR film/franchise reboot. She is now the official successor to LINDA HAMILTON from the original films as well as her other GoT co-star LENA HEADEY (Cersei Lannister) who played the character in the short-lived SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES show on FOX.
There are also plans for a companion television series to accompany the film, much like MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. is doing for the Marvel universe. Whether or not Clarke will appear in both is yet to be announced, but regardless… more TERMINATOR is usually better than less TERMINATOR.
This can also be very meaningful for how television and cinema interoperate moving forward. AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. can be called a fairly successful experiment as it weaves and intersects with the film properties but ultimately stands on its own two feet. This seems to be an extension of the other recent trend of successfully translating big screen to small screen with series such as BATES MOTEL, HANNIBAL and the recently announced ROSEMARY’S BABY. if they are able to duplicate Marvel’s results with a show running concurrent rather than parallel we can expect to see much more of this style of storytelling. Which if applied to the correct properties will be an exciting change to look forward to.
Are you happy to hear the TERMINATOR casting news? Is there somebody you would have rather seen as the new Sarah Connor?
