Yahoo! recently released a Community season 6 trailer and it has forced me to come to terms with the fact that they did in fact save this show from cancellation. I was ignoring the news hoping that if I didn’t think about it or talk about it, that it wouldn’t be true and Community could die the death it deserved. Seeing this trailer forced me to come to terms with the horrible news and since I am never one to suffer TV injustices in silence, I am about to transfer this pain to you, our readers. There will indeed be a season 6 of Community and based on this trailer, it will be everything torturous and evil that seasons 3 through 5 were, no, even more so.
Community Season 6 Trailer
Oh that Winger. He’s just so sarcastic. Will he ever find love? And how about that whacky Abed? What will he do next? I don’t know, but we all better tune in to find out because it will be a parody and it will be hi-larious. Seriously.
If ever a show fully deserved the cancellation that it brought upon itself, Community would be that show. While the first 2 seasons were fantastic, it quickly devolved in to something insidious. Sure NBC didn’t help the show and did their best to kill it (firing the creator and several writers), but that blame can only go so far. Harmon was even back for season 5 and while some people said they saw some of the flashes of the brilliance of the early seasons, I didn’t agree. It was more of the same. Just morer of the samer.
The two smartest people involved with this show recognized that it was time to get the heck out. Chevy Chase quit when the show was really turning bad and he took a beating for it in the public, but it turns out that Chevy was right (that’s not familiar ground for Chevy). Donald Glover was the next to recognize that the Community ship was taking on water. He didn’t even have another gig (other than this rap thing he is trying) to run off to but he thought it was so bad that he should quit a high-paying job anyway. His character along with that whacky Abed were the focus of 100% of the shows from season 3 on and he still didn’t want anything to do with it. That should tell you something.
There are rumors that Alison Brie might not be back for season 6. If she’s not back what are we going to have? Full episodes of listening to Shirley’s annoying voice? Full Britta episodes? No I’ve got it, let’s continue on with this completely asinine Chang story line of him being a spy or a plant or whatever it was that he was that allows you to keep writing him in to the scrip. Or even worse, full on Jeff Winger and his sass mouth that just won’t take any gumption for anyone? They will be in real trouble if they lose another of their focal cast members. They are left with the cast members who are hanging on for dear life at this point.
We don’t know what season 6 is going to look like but be sure to tune in when it premieres on Yahoo! to find out which 80s TV show or movie they will be doing a parody of for the premiere. I’m sure it will be great.
