Network TV

All shows on a major network

As my co-contributor pointed out in his post about THE MIDDLE, what he likes about the show is that he feels as though the show is following him around.  I think that’s what we like about TV, people better looking and more interesting than us going through the same things we face. All that to talk about last nights episode of GUYS WITH KIDS.  First, it’s filmed in front of a live studio audience.  Why would anyone do that?  It’s not a talk show.  Second, the situations on ...Click for More

The Middle

October 3, 2012 // 0 Comments

So I watch The Middle.  It should be no surprise being that I am a Midwest TV Guy and The Middle is set in, wait for it, the Midwest.  What is sad is how much the show mirrors my life.  It’s almost as if the writers of the show are bugging my house.  On a side note, if Sue Heck ever loses her boundless optimism and unfaltering positive outlook, I think I will be more crushed than she will ...Click for More

I’m not going to spoil anything about tonight’s Survivor episode here so don’t worry if you haven’t watched it yet.  What I’d like to do for my first post about one of the best reality shows on TV (you can suck it Amazing Race) is to talk a bit about what I’d like to see for some improvements. The Hidden Idol Mark Burnett caught lightning in a bottle when he came up with the hidden immunity idol idea.  What a game changer.  If you have it, you can’t ...Click for More

Come on people this show is really good.  It is getting an 8.3 out of 10 on IMDB, which is really high.  REVOLUTION is getting a 6.6 by comparison and that’s already been picked ...Click for More

Everybody knows that if you are a bad TV show and you want to exist for a long time you go to CBS (YES DEAR, 2 BROKE GIRLS, MIKE & MOLLY, etc). Also, since the COSBY SHOW, NIGHT COURT, and CHEERS, NBC has been the place shows go to die. It appears all that is changing now with REVOLUTION, THE NEW NORMAL, and GO ON getting the first full year pick-ups. I don’t mean to toot our own horn over here, but MIDWEST TV GUYS have been raving about these shows from the get ...Click for More

All About Schmidt

October 3, 2012 // 1 Comment

Folks, this is Max Greenfield.  He plays Schmidt on Fox’s New Girl.  This man is one of the funniest people on network TV right now and he is suffering.  He is suffering because he is languishing in the shadow of the wooden tree that is Zooey Deschanel. As I’ve said before, New Girl is suffering from Ted Mosby syndrome.  Every one of the supporting characters on that show outshines the lead in every episode with Mr. Greenfield leading the charge. I highly recommend this show but ...Click for More

Go On…

October 3, 2012 // 0 Comments

Matthew Perry has a new show on NBC called Go On.  It’s a show about a self-centered sports radio host that has recently been widowed who has joined a support group to deal with his depression. While it sounds like a downer of a concept, this is actually a funny show and it’s going to be staying in my DVR.  Perry has had some misses since his days on Friends and I’m glad to see that he is still getting opportunities.  As the funniest of the Friends cast, this guy should be ...Click for More

Speaking of Ted Mosby…

October 3, 2012 // 0 Comments

For all that is decent and holy.  Please.  For the love of god.  Can the writers of How I Met Your Mother find a way to write Ted off the show?  I know that the whole premise of the show is the story of how Ted met the mother of his kids, but this is Hollywood.  This is the place that found a way out of killing Bobby Ewing.  This is the place that killed Thomas Magnum when they thought they were cancelled and then magically brought him back to life when they were picked up for another ...Click for More

Trouble With The New Girl

October 3, 2012 // 0 Comments

The New Girl is a funny show on Fox that is suffering from the dreaded Ted Mosby syndrome.  Much like How I Met Your Mother, the supporting cast of The New Girl is far funnier than the lead character.  I implore the writers of The New Girl to find a way to write Zooey Deschanel off the show.  I would tune in to watch a show about her friends but watching her makes me want to jam sharp objects right in to my eye ...Click for More
