This new commercial is causing a bit of controversy today. It seems that people are actually offended by this Damian Lillard Footlocker commercial. Check it out and see if you can figure out what has people upset. Damian Lillard Footlocker Commercial   Get it? It seems that people are taking offense at Lillard’s poking fun at some of these legends who never won a title.  I haven’t followed the NBA since their last strike and I have never heard of Damian Lillard, but I liked ...Click for More

Tide Free Blanket Commercial

April 13, 2014 // 0 Comments

Have you seen this commercial? I call it the Tide free blanket commercial but I guess officially it’s a commercial for Tide, Bounce, and Downy free. If you have sensitive skin and can’t handle laundry detergent that gets your clothes actually clean, then this is the product for you. I’m not arguing the merits of the product. I’m here to talk about something I found to be very disturbing in this commercial. What is the deal with the grandma? If I were this kid’s ...Click for More

Mila Kunis for Jim Beam

March 15, 2014 // 0 Comments

If there is a war going on between the various whiskey makers out there, I wasn’t aware of it. Apparently, Jim Beam took Dewars’ hiring of Claire Forlani as a spokesperson for their beverage as a shot across their bow. What did they do in response? Well they went out and won the war.  The folks at Jim Beam went out and hired Mila Kunis to be their new spokesperson. Dewars didn’t have much luck with their campaign. At first, people made fun of Forlani’s horrible ...Click for More

Brian Scalabrine 30 for 30 Spoof

March 15, 2014 // 0 Comments

Unless you are a hardcore fan of the NBA or a fan of one of the three teams he played for, you probably don’t know who Brian Scalabrine is. Despite not being well-known at all, he managed to have an 11-year NBA career with three different teams, one of those teams being the Chicago Bulls. He was certainly never a great player but I enjoyed his time here in Chicago because Brian Scalabrine is a funny guy who got it. He understood that he was lucky to be in the NBA. He wasn’t a ...Click for More

Jeppson’s Malort Commercial

March 13, 2014 // 3 Comments

You know you are doing well as a liquor maker if your liquor has become known as a rite of passage. Jeppson’s Malort is a liquor on that list. It’s a drink that was popular in Sweden in the 1800’s that was brought to Chicago by Swedish immigrant Carl Jeppson. After prohibition, Jeppson sold his drink to a man named George Brode who had Chicago’s first post-prohibition liquor license. Brode then for some reason decided to mass-produce Malort. He left the liquor business ...Click for More

Gillette Manscaping Sadness

March 12, 2014 // 0 Comments

The demasculinization of the American man has been going on for several years now. I just saw a commercial from Gillette that signals the end of the war. Men have lost and now the guys who spend as much time as women getting ready to go out have apparently won. Have you seen this commercial from Gillette? It makes me sad for the future of our society. Yes. I am the judge of what is appropriate for all of society. Gillette Manscaping   Unless you are an Olympic swimmer, there is really not ...Click for More

When The Muppets Try To Get Gas

March 10, 2014 // 0 Comments

It wasn’t that long ago that we were all viciously attacked by one of the most oppressive movie advertising campaigns in the history of humanity. You have probably blocked it from your memory and I apologize if I undo months of counseling, but remember the campaign for Anchorman 2? I’ll wait while you compose yourself. That campaign is an example of doing it wrong. Now we can take a look at someone who is doing it right, The Muppets. The Muppets have a new movie coming out on March ...Click for More

Godzilla Snickers Commercial

March 2, 2014 // 0 Comments

Snickers has a long history of funny commercials. They’ve had Snickers Batman, and the Chefs spelling error that are both very funny commercials. Snickers has been running the You’re not You When You’re Hungry campaign for a while now and most of the commercials are pretty funny. The ad campaign has brought out all kinds of stars for these commercials and now, Snickers has gone overseas to bring back a big star from Japan. This is the Godzilla Snickers commercial: Godzilla ...Click for More

Super Back Hair Remover Commercial

February 22, 2014 // 5 Comments

One of the first posts we ever did here at MWTVG was this awful commercial for a callus remover. It’s one of our hall of fame posts. I just saw a commercial today that is sure to both amaze and disgust you and will no doubt enter the basic cable advertising hall of fame as well. I don’t know if back hair is a huge issue for a lot of people but if it is a problem, there is now a solution. This is an actual product. I’m not kidding. Here is the commercial. Watch it and then tell ...Click for More

Hans Strudel is Here for Your Soul

January 24, 2014 // 2 Comments

Hans Strudel has got to be one of the creepiest product mascots in recent memory. Hans is back with a couple more commercials from Pillsbury and I am convinced now more than ever that Hans Strudel is here for your soul. Do not believe him when he says he is here to give you a tasty pastry. That is a ruse. That is how Hans is getting in to your house. “Do not trust the horse, Trojans. Whatever it is, I fear the Greeks even when they bring gifts.” Virgil’s Aeneid, Book 2, 19 ...Click for More

The Worst Commercials of Christmas 2013

December 28, 2013 // 0 Comments

Something strange happened this Christmas. I wasn’t as annoyed by commercials this year as I have been in years past. Does that mean that my small heart grew two sizes that day? No I don’t think so. I think there are two reasons for why commercials were less annoying. First, I think it’s possible retailers (specifically the jewelry and luxury car guys) are starting to get it. Why waste money on commercials that everyone hates? Does it really help? The other reason, and ...Click for More

eHarmony Granddaughter Commercial

December 23, 2013 // 0 Comments

One of the drawbacks of watching live sports on TV is that you can’t fast forward through commercials. Sometimes this results in the double whammy of having to watch your favorite team, like the Bears, get completely destroyed while not being able to skip over commercials. Losing the ability to skip commercials sometimes exposes you to some awful things like the eHarmony granddaughter commercial. Have you seen it? You probably have but if not, here it is for you:   Awful right? This ...Click for More

The Worst Commercial Ever

December 23, 2013 // 3 Comments

I write a lot about commercials because they are a big part of TV. The invention of the DVR and internet streaming has lessened their impact from what it once was, but there are times when we are still forced to watch commercials. Sometimes commercials are good, and sometimes they are bad. Sometimes, they are like this one and they become the worst commercial ever.  Check out this commercial and tell me how much you agree with me because frankly, there is no way you can’t agree with me ...Click for More
