Bonnie Franklin passed away today from pancreatic cancer at the age of 69. I am 44 and this is one of those shows I remember from my early childhood. The show was somewhat controversial back in the day if you recall. A divorced mother raising two kids on her own without a man.
The show aired for 9 seasons, yet she never won an award for her portrayal of Ann Romano, the plucky divorcee trying to make it in a man’s world. I’m guessing it had to do with the content of the show. She only made a few appearances after the show ended. Most recently in 2011 when she teamed back up with Valerie Bertinelli on Hot In Cleveland.
If nothing else, the show gave us Schneider. Kind of the Kramer before his time.
