With production officially underway (as of last Tuesday) on the third season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY, everybody has continued to be pretty tight-lipped on any sort of details surrounding story, plot, characters or really anything to do with the season minus the ominous “Coven” moniker. Here’s what we know: it’s about witches. And New Orleans. Anything else is a complete mystery.
Luckily they are generous with casting details, as it was revealed today through a tweet by creator RYAN MURPHY that DENIS O’HARE is officially signed on for this season. O’HARE returns from the first season of AHS and is most notably (to me) from TRUE BLOOD as the ‘King of Louisiana’ Russell Edgington.
This is yet another solid addition to an already excellent cast, bringing back the vast majority of the ‘mainstays’ (JESSICA LANGE, LILY RABE, EVAN PETERS, SARAH PAULSON, FRANCES CONROY, etc.) and adding in some incredible new blood such as KATHY BATES, ANGELA BASSETT, GABOUREY SIDIBE (from PRECIOUS), EMMA ROBERTS (Julia’s niece) and PATTI LUPONE.
No premiere date has been set as of yet, but it will inevitably be sometime in October. I am more jazzed now than I’ve been this whole time about this season primarily based on the outstanding casting decisions. I hope they have learned some lessons and taken some of the constructive criticism to heart from the ups and downs in season 2. AHS fans: What are you looking most forward to with the onset of season 3?
